Prioritize and advocate for safe walking and cycling on our City roads
I am an avid cyclist and enjoy riding in Mequon and our surrounding communities. The Interurban Trail is a gem and there are lots of “hidden” bicycle paths that connect neighborhoods. I can get to River Road from my home near Highland House using the paths without ever having to ride on a busy road! Unfortunately many roads in Mequon were not designed for safe walking, running, or cycling, especially where shoulders are narrow and drivers are distracted. The Mequon/Thiensville Community Foundation is working to privately fund a safe, paved bike/pedestrian path along Highland Road from Rotary Park west to the Ozaukee Interurban Trail (OIT). This path will connect families, children, and visitors to Rotary Park, the OIT, and the Town Center of Mequon/Thiensville. I support initiatives like this and look forward to working to make sure our roads are safe for pedestrians and cyclists.
